Focus into the Soul

A creative channel for self-discovery, exploration, and inspiration

Focus into the Soul cards were inspired by the book "Do Not Disturb, I'm Drawing" and by research into the development of children's drawings and their meanings. They were created to serve as a creative tool for self-exploration, discovering paths, and finding inspiration. Born from clinical work, the cards allow continuing the meeting with the inner world outside the therapy room. They allow for deepening and fostering self-reflection, emotional development, finding an inner center and anchor for the soul, and strengthening self-image.

They can be used to clarify situations of indecision, conflicts, and challenges. The cards enable bringing up deep and hidden content in a creative and surprising way, encourage the ability to observe, and provide fertile ground for growth and personal development.

Inspired by the principles of "Focusing" developed by Dr. Eugene Gendlin, philosopher and psychotherapist, the cards invite a gentle pause, listening inward to body and soul, and allow meanings, images, and words to emerge from the bodily felt sense itself. The scribbles and images on the cards serve as a bridge between inner experiencing and expression. In this way, the cards become not only a reflective tool, but a companion for an inner dialogue between body and awareness, expression and creation.

Example of a process and insight from working with the cards

Yael, a woman of about 50, who had previously initiated and produced projects, complained in our meeting about feeling stuck and unable to move forward with projects she had started. In a Focusing-oriented session, when the cards were spread before her, she chose a scribble with a lot of movement in light blue (card 17). While observing the scribble, she opened her arms and began moving them, inspired by the movement in the card. Afterward, she drew the experience. Following the process, she shared that her breathing had expanded, and the experience allowed her to reconnect with her ability and potential to move and progress. This was the first step in the process of releasing the "stuckness" and realizing her initiatives.

What People Say About the Cards

Recommendation for the lecture and workshop with "Focus into the Soul" cards I participated several times in the lecture and workshop – "The Scribble as a Mirror to the Soul" by Michal Bogin. As a children's art therapist, the lecture and workshop opened a new window for me into the child's soul. Observing the primary shapes allows me to watch children drawing in therapy without judgment, with curiosity and joy, and to help children find their way freely and playfully toward development. In meetings with parents, the knowledge I received from Michal helps me focus my understanding, and usually connects the parents to their child's strengths and uniqueness. Personally, I sometimes used the workshop and "Focus into the Soul" cards that Michal created to examine personal and professional issues that concern me. Each time I surprised myself. The way Michal guides the workshop, with observation of the simple shapes that touch the foundations of the soul, allowed me to explore these topics with creativity, enjoyment, and curiosity, so that at the end of a very short process I had a new and fresh perspective on issues that had occupied me for a long time. A perspective that allows approaching the troubling topic in a different way. Highly recommended – the lecture, workshop for parents, therapists, educators, and simply for curious people who want a window to themselves in a creative and surprising way.

About the Creator – Michal Bogin Feinberg

An art therapist with many years of experience. After years of research working with children, adolescents, and adults, and writing the book "Do Not Disturb, I'm Drawing," Michal discovered the many meanings of each shape and what it represents in the stages of emotional development. She created the "Focus into the Soul" cards to make the book's content accessible and vivid, breathing life into the scribbles and drawings presented in it.

Michal combines art therapy with the Focusing method developed by Dr. Eugene Gendlin, which helps deepen inward observation of body and soul, and creates outward movement. Her experience with Focusing and insights from therapeutic sessions, lectures, and workshops led her to create the cards and understand the therapeutic and developmental potential they hold.

Inspiration and Development with Focus into the Soul Cards

The cards were created out of love and curiosity for people and creation. They serve as a tool to support the natural process of development, at each person's individual pace, allowing enjoyment of every stage of the journey. They encourage the ability to observe and pause, to deepen, explore, and discover oneself. The scribbles on the cards are characterized by simplicity and primacy, creating a space for imaginative expression.

The experience with the cards enables transitions, changes, development, and release of familiar patterns. The primary shapes stimulate and encourage creativity, vitality, and fresh thinking, sometimes in surprising ways.

I hope that working with the Focus into the Soul cards will bring you enjoyment and allow you to discover new and wonderful things through them.
