Workshops for therapists and helping professionals
The Courage to Be Simple
Deep simplicity in therapeutic work: less effort to impress and know, more listening, presence and trust in the process.
As therapists, we may feel that we must hold the session, know, interpret and offer another tool at every moment. Yet the effort to be a good therapist can sometimes distance us from the person in front of us.
Simplicity is not giving up knowledge or professionalism. It lets therapists stop proving their professionalism — and become present within it.
Why is simplicity valuable in therapeutic work?
When therapists allow themselves to be simple, attention is released from the need to impress and returns to the encounter itself.
What becomes possible for the therapist?
- More peace of mind and less effort to remain constantly in role.
- Sharper listening for the authenticity and emotion arising in the session.
- Trust in oneself, the client and the therapeutic process.
- Presence and intuition that do not hide behind a professional facade.
What becomes possible for the client?
- Feeling that every line, emotion and expression has value and meaning.
- Being who they are without needing to impress or give the right answer.
- Developing confidence and the courage to try, imagine and discover.
- Expanding a simple line through their own inner world, without the therapist taking over its meaning.
Can simplicity be taught?
Perhaps simplicity cannot be taught in the usual sense because it already exists within us. We can remove what conceals it, return our attention to it and practise the courage to trust it.
In a world that asks us to add more knowledge, another tool and another explanation, the workshop offers a pause and a return to the core: the first line, the simple form and the feeling that has not yet been interpreted.
Simplicity allows me to be who I am — and from there to expand, dare and grow.
The simple line does not restrict. It becomes an open foundation that clients can expand through their imagination, while the therapist holds the space without determining the destination in advance.
What happens in the workshop?
An experiential workshop combining observation, creative work and Focusing — listening to the body — with Focus into the Soul cards, which contain primary forms.
Through simple lines, forms and colours, we explore how to remain with observation and allow meanings to emerge. We make room for space and imagination, asking how simplicity feels for me as a therapist and what it makes possible for the client. We examine when I am holding a foundation that supports expansion and when holding becomes over-direction. Participants are welcome to bring dilemmas and examples from their clinical work for shared reflection.
How do we work with the cards?
In the workshop, we explore practical ways to use the cards in the clinic: choosing a card, observing its line and form, listening to bodily sensations, asking open questions and expanding the line through creative work. We learn how to accompany clients as they discover their own meanings, without rushing to interpret the card for them.

The “gift” of the workshop
A space to reconnect with myself and with others, and to leave with greater trust in my own way as a therapist. Alongside the experience, participants receive a simple practice they can return to in the clinic: pause, listen to the body, begin with one line and allow meaning to emerge.
Who is the workshop for?
Art therapists, psychotherapists, psychologists, social workers, counsellors, group facilitators, educators and other helping professionals.
Meeting formats
Invite an introductory lecture, a one-time experiential workshop or an ongoing process for professional teams and groups. Content and scope are tailored to each group.
Therapists share their experience
As an arts therapist working with children, the lecture and workshop opened a new window into the child's soul for me. Looking at the primary forms allows me to observe children drawing in therapy without judgment, with curiosity and joy, and to help children find their way freely and playfully toward development.
Thank you for a professional and fascinating lecture. The cards you developed are a powerful tool that uses the most basic forms known to people. Our brief introduction to them left me curious to explore and experience more.
Thank you for the generous simplicity that holds an entire world within it.
